Can you believe it's already been four years since the Fleeting Colors in Flight update? I was scrolling through my screenshots and suddenly felt a wave of nostalgia for that magical time in Genshin Impact. Version 2.4 brought us back to where it all started – Liyue Harbour – and honestly, it was one of the coziest patches ever. If you’re a newer Traveler, let me take you down memory lane on why this update was so iconic. 😌

After all those intense Inazuma archon quests, returning to Liyue felt like coming home. The Lantern Rite was back, and this time Ningguang really took center stage. Remember how the Jade Chamber was sacrificed to seal Osial? Well, the interlude quest The Crane Returns On The Wind finally let us see it rebuilt – and watching it rise again gave me goosebumps. 🤩
But what truly stole the show for me were the two new faces: Shenhe and Yun Jin. I mean, how could a Cryo exorcist with a tragic past and an opera diva not become instant fan favorites?
❄️ Shenhe – The Frosty Adeptus Disciple
Shenhe was born with a curse of calamity, forced to bind her soul with red ropes just to keep her homicidal impulses under control. Her backstory is heartbreaking – she spent years in isolation among Liyue’s mountains, learning from Cloud Retainer. As a Cryo support, she could summon an icy clone and buff her teammates’ damage, especially fellow Cryo characters. Pairing her with Ayaka or Ganyu was chef’s kiss. 💙
Were you as stunned as I was by her breathtaking opera adaptation? That’s where Yun Jin enters the stage.
🎭 Yun Jin – The Geo Opera Star
Yun Jin wasn’t just the director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe; she was also a playwright and performer who could captivate any audience. Her Geo support kit focused on normal attack buffs and shielding, making her perfect for characters like Yoimiya or even Eula. The fact that she’s a 4-star meant many of us could welcome her without breaking the bank – and her animations? Pure art. 🎶
The banners were crazy too. The first half dropped with Shenhe and a Xiao rerun simultaneously (yes, double 5-stars!), and Yun Jin had a boosted drop rate on both. Then later we got the legendary duo rerun of Zhongli and Ganyu. Did you get the weapon banner for Calamity Queller? That polearm looked tailor-made for Shenhe, but Xiao mains also learned to appreciate it.
🏮 Lantern Rite 2.4: More Than Just Fireworks
This wasn’t a simple rerun of the first Lantern Rite. We had:
-
A firework-making challenge that tested our crafting skills 🎆
-
Shadow riddles that made us squint at mysterious shapes 🔍
-
Underwater salvage missions from the Jade Chamber wreckage 🏊♂️
-
Cargo transport across the sea (I loved the Liyue-style logistics!)
And the rewards? Oh the rewards. Logging in during the event gave us a free 4-star character of our choice, including Yun Jin! Plus that gorgeous Ningguang outfit, and a total of 10 Intertwined Fates. At that time, with primogems also arriving via limited livestream codes (SA7V2DRZGAU5, anyone?), my savings for Zhongli were secured. 🤑
We also got two hangout events – Ningguang’s The Jade Chamber’s Returning Guest and Yun Jin’s A Song That Knows Grace. I remember laughing at Ningguang’s business savvy and swooning over Yun Jin’s voice. Did you survive all the delicious dialogue?
🗺️ Enkanomiya – The Sunken Abyss
What made 2.4 truly massive was the introduction of Enkanomiya, a whole new region beneath Watatsumi Island. This ancient civilization that sank into the Abyss years ago felt completely alien – perpetual twilight, vertical ruins, and puzzles that made you think. The new enemies like Bathysmal Vishaps were no joke. Exploration here felt like a blend of beauty and dread, and I’ll never forget my first glimpse of the Dainichi Mikoshi. 🕯️
📈 Quality of Life That We Still Appreciate
Even the little things mattered: the Spiral Abyss interface got a much-needed clarity boost, and map improvements made navigating the depths slightly less terrifying. It’s these details that show how much Hoyoverse listens.
Looking back from 2026, version 2.4 played a huge role in expanding the game’s world and deepening its cultural roots. The mix of Liyue’s warmth, the tragedy of Shenhe, the elegance of opera, and the mystery of Enkanomiya – it was a masterclass in storytelling. ✨
So, Travelers old and new: which memory from Fleeting Colors in Flight lives rent-free in your head? Was it pulling for your favorite adeptus, solving that one annoying shadow riddle, or listening to Yun Jin’s stage performance for the thousandth time? Let me know in the comments – let’s stroll down memory lane together. 🏮
